Mental Health Worker

Wabun Tribal Council Health Services is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position as the Mental Health Worker for the Wabun Tribal Council communities.

Under the supervision of the Mental Health Coordinator and the direction of the Health Director, the  mental health worker will coordinate culturally appropriate services for individuals and families who are affected by mental illness, trauma, addictions and social issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide compassionate care to people with mental health and substance abuse conditions
    • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
    • Monitor and assess clients’ mental health status
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans
    • Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions and treatment options.
    • Make referrals to appropriate services
    • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records

Qualifications

Bachelor of Nursing Degree or Registered Nurse with Mental Health Nursing Certificate or Registered Nurse with appropriate experience.

    • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
    • Must know Indigenous people, culture, traditions, and communities
    • Minimum of 2 years experience in nursing
    • Current CNO & RNAO Registration
    • Current certification in CPR, Standard First Aid
    • Ability to speak a native language considered an asset
    • Satisfactory CPIC and vulnerable sectors check
    • Previous experience in case management or community health setting
    • Strong client care skills, including trauma-informed care
