Mental Health Worker
Beaverhouse First Nation
Beaverhouse First Nation is seeking a compassionate and culturally grounded Mental Health Worker to provide holistic, culturally appropriate mental health support to community members.
This role will integrate Indigenous traditions, teachings, and healing practices with mental health approaches to promote emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Beaverhouse Band Members and Indigenous Persons will be given priority.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and holistic mental health support to Beaverhouse First Nation members.
- Conduct client assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with clients, families, and community supports.
- Provide one-on-one and group support, crisis intervention, referrals, and ongoing follow-up.
- Build trusting relationships and promote mental health awareness through community outreach, workshops, wellness events, and educational sessions.
- Incorporate Indigenous traditions, teachings, ceremonies, and healing practices in collaboration with Knowledge Keepers.
- Facilitate access to talking circles, land-based healing, and culturally relevant wellness activities.
- Collaborate with the Health and Social Services team and community partners to coordinate holistic care.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and client debriefings, sharing relevant updates and culturally appropriate strategies.
- Maintain accurate, confidential client records and complete required reports and program documentation.
- Contribute to the development of culturally relevant mental health resources, programs, and educational materials.
- Support community members in achieving improved emotional, mental, spiritual, and overall well-being.
Required Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, Child and Youth Services, Social Services, Mental Health and Addictions, or a related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a mental health, social services, addictions, or related field.
- A combination of relevant education, experience, and certifications may be considered.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, and other related office programs.
Assets
- Experience working within Indigenous communities or organizations.
- Understanding of Native culture, traditions, teachings, and community dynamics.
- Valid Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Valid First Aid/CPR.
- Valid Mental Health First Aid Certification.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and holistic approaches to health and wellness.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

May 2025 – Enquiry into the Existence of a Mixed-Ancestry Community – This report has as a research objective to determine if a mixed-ancestry community existed on the territory claimed by the Wabun Tribal Council anytime before 1906. If such a mixed-ancestry community is found to have existed, its characteristics are to be described.

Timmins, ON — Yesterday, Wabun Tribunal Council released a new, independent academic Report concluding that there is no evidence to support claims of a distinct, mixed- ancestry community in the territory of First Nations represented by Wabun Tribal Council.
