Economic Development Officer
Beaverhouse First Nation
This position will play an important role in supporting the growth, transformation, and development of Beaverhouse First Nation in the Kirkland Lake area.
Beaverhouse Band Members and Indigenous persons will be given priority.
Duties
- Develop economic development projects with stakeholders and prepare appropriate funding applications.
- Review statistics, community information, and consultation documents to develop Strategic Action Plans.
- Participate in networking with regional First Nation communities and Indigenous economic development organizations, including trade shows, workforce development conferences, and business development seminars.
- Compile signed industry agreements and design and maintain an archival directory for organizational capacity building.
- Support organizational and community development through planning, data collection, and research.
- Create capacity-building opportunities for Beaverhouse membership through entrepreneurship workshops, cooperatives, business ventures, and other entrepreneurial training.
Community Engagement & Consultation
- Apply the First Nations principles of OCAP®. Training will be provided.
- Create and maintain a repository of MOUs and agreements with industry partners.
- Assist with the creation of an Economic Development Action Committee and development of its Terms of Reference.
- Assist with consultation activities and prepare reports for community members, Band management, and leadership as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Willingness to be trained in the Economic Development sector.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, and other related office programs.
Assets
- Understanding of Native culture, traditions, teachings, and community dynamics.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.

Wabun Tribal Council made history in December 1993 as the first organization in Ontario to take over the administration of health programming from the First Nations & Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada.
The Wabun Model: Meaningful Engagement
On Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, the Wabun Tribal Council (WTC) was called to testify at House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Natural Resources as part of its study on The Future of Canada’s Oil and Gas, Mining, and Nuclear Sectors. Specifically, Wabun presented its recommendations to improve meaningful engagement of First Nations in mineral resource exploration and development.
