Jordan’s Principle Coordinator
Matachewan First Nation
Matachewan First Nation is currently seeking a professional to fill the newly developed position, Jordan’s Principle Coordinator reporting directly to Band Manager. The Jordan’s Principle Coordinator is responsible to develop and submit proposals on behalf of Matachewan First Nation membership and the various social departments connected to the well-being of the Community and it’s children.
Duties & Responsibilities

- Assisting families with completing Jordan’s Principle applications.
- Processing payments to families.
- Tracking Jordan’s Principle applications and their current statutes
- Contacting families, vendors or professionals and maintaining invoices on file.
- Follow-up with clients/families and key contacts to ensure the child is receiving and maintaining the services required.
- Become knowledgeable with Department of Indigenous Services Canada documentation
related to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal and Jordan’s Principle - Provide support and advocate for family(s) for solutions
- Work collaboratively with Community Services, NNADAP, Choose Life, Band Rep Services, and Family Wellbeing
- Documentation of client files, maintained and updated
- Data collection, submission of reports
- Case review meetings with parties involved
- Providing support to other First Nation programs/events
- Other duties as may be required
Qualifications
-
- Certificate in Social Work and/or 2 years of experience working in First Nation health, social or educational sectors.
- Knowledge and experience of First Nation culture and history.
- Trauma based knowledge and practices an asset
- Excellent case management techniques
- Discretion handling sensitive materials and information
- Class G driver’s license
- Must provide a clear criminal record check
- Proficiency in the use of computer programs (Microsoft word, Power Point, Excel)
- Strong negotiation skills and techniques
- Strong written and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with all Matachewan First Nation staff and community members.
- Capable of working under pressure and in stressful situations.
