Family Cultural Worker

Matachewan First Nation

The Family Cultural Worker provides a traditional direct one to one support to parents in their home or in a group setting. Services include educating parents about childcare and child development; advocacy for parents/families; encourage nurturing behaviour and interaction between parents and their children; and assisting parents and families in accessing relevant community resources. The Family Cultural Worker functions with the policy and procedures of Matachewan First Nation.

Qualifications

    • Knowledge of Matachewan First Nation programs and services
    • Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of First Nation culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings
    • Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs, and traditions in responding to child welfare
    • Knowledge of external services and service agencies
    • Willing to attend training workshops, and conferences

    • Ability to work flexible hours
    • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
    • Ability to work within a team environment
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Good written and oral communication skill
    • Strong collaborative and facilitation skills

Other Requirements

    •  Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (upon offer)
    • Must have a Class G Ontario’s Driver’s Licence and provide Drivers Abstract (upon offer)
