CNC is seeking an Environmental Student to join our team. Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, the Environmental Student is primarily intended to support completion of baseline programs related to the Crawford Project, though the applicant will be expected to support CNC in its other ventures.

This position is based out of the core shack on Jaguar Drive in Timmins, Ontario, and will require frequent regional travel. This position will require the individual to work independently.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the environmental coordinator, the environmental monitor’s daily duties would generally include the following tasks:

    • Service work, renovations, new construction
    • Perform environmental site inspections prior, during and after work conducted by contractors and consultants to ensure compliance to standards and regulation.
    • Document observations and participate in identifying mitigation and corrective measures.
    • Collect water, soil, ambient air and sediment samples as part of ongoing environmental baseline programs and report any concerns.
    • Operate light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, pumps, batteries, Argos, ATVs, snowmobiles, boats, generators, and others.
    • Compile field and lab results.
    • Prepare and maintain necessary reports and records as required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.

Skills

    • Must be a Licensed Carpenter
    • Valid G2 license
    • Ability to work well independently, incorporate suggestions and to meet deadlines
    • Reading comprehension skills: You must have excellent reading comprehension skills in order to understand work-related documents.
    • Critical thinking skills: These will allow you to weigh possible solutions to problems.
    • Professionalism: You will need to produce high-quality and well documented work
    • Communication skills: You will be working as a member of a team, so possessing strong listening, speaking, writing skills, and interpersonal skills is critical. You must convey information factually and clearly.
    • Observational skills: You must be able to recognize and identify potential problems without delay.
    • Hard work and initiative: You may be tasked with independent duties and will be required to identify and respond to situations that may arise in the field
